Race Report - Yamaha wins 2017 AquaX Round 3

On March 20th 2017, the reigning Australian Champion Mitch Wayt #16, won both Pro-Stock Closed-Course and Pro-Stock Enduro at the 2017 AquaX Round 3, against some of Australia's best riders.
Less than favourable weather made for an interesting and evolving track layout, which tested the 40 strong competitors.

In the Pro-Stock Runabout Closed-Course class, #16 Wayt was able to clean sweep each of the three motos on his 2017 GP1800, to win 1st overall.
Clean and fast starts off the line has always been the SVHO engine's strength and with the razor-sharp handling of the new hull, the GP1800 was dominant on the straights and in the corners.

  • Pro-Stock Class Runabout Closed-Circuit - 1st | 1st | 1st = 1st overall

In Pro-Stock Runabout Enduro Class, #16 Wayt had his work cut out for himself, with an impressive win in Moto 1, and a technical issue forcing Wayt to nurse his GP1800 in Moto 2.
Wayt's superior pace was clear and allowed him to mix it with the fastest of the Open and Stock class riders in Moto 1, which resulted in a close and entertaining win.
However, Moto 2 proved difficult for the Champ. On lap 2, Wayt experienced a drop in performance due to an intercooler hose becoming loose. Fearing a penalty for an unscheduled stop, Wayt soldiered on and nursed the GP1800 to the chequered flag. Luckily for Wayt, a few other riders also suffered technical issues and were forced to retire, this promoted Wayt to a higher position. By finishing the last moto, Wayt was able to salvage enough points to win 1st overall in the Pro-Stock Enduro class.

  • Pro-Stock Class Runabout Endurance = 1st overall

Yamaha Motor Australia would like to congratulate Mitch Wayt #16 on his impressive performance at the 2017 NSW PWC AquaX.
Yamaha would also like to thank the Volunteers, Race-Marshals, Club Members and Competitors for their time.
